ES-001: ACE Reports Entry Summary Header Details Explained

Key Points
- ES-001 is the ACE Reports Entry Summary Header Details report: one row per entry summary, carrying header data such as entry number, filer code, entry type, entry and summary dates, ports of entry and unlading, estimated duty, total entered value and liquidation status.
- ES-001 replaced the legacy AM-068 and ESM-7068 entry summary reports, so older internal procedures that still name those reports should be rewritten.
- ES-001 is header level only; line level data lives in ACE Reports ES-002 Entry Summary Line Details and tariff level data in ES-003.
- The most common ES-001 mistakes are filtering on entry date when the summary date was meant, mixing ACS era and ACE era summaries in one pull, and reading header duty as if it were line duty.
- As of October 2026, confirm field names, availability and run options in ACE Reports and the ACE Reports data dictionary rather than relying on legacy documentation.

ES-001 is the ACE Reports Entry Summary Header Details report, a standard report in ACE Reports that returns one row per entry summary with the header level facts of that filing. Importers, customs brokers and trade compliance managers run ES-001 over a date range or an importer of record number to see what was filed in their name, to reconcile broker filings against internal records, and to check liquidation status before starting refund or protest work. ES-001 sits after filing in the entry lifecycle: it reports on entry summaries that already exist in ACE, rather than creating or amending them.

What data does ES-001 return?
ES-001 returns header level identifiers, dates, parties, values and status fields for each entry summary in the selected scope. The field set named for ES-001 includes the entry number, filer code, entry type, entry date and summary date, port of entry and port of unlading, mode of transportation, importer and consignee numbers, bond type, carrier, location of goods, estimated duty, total entered value, payment type, liquidation status, liquidation date and liquidation type, plus live entry and post summary correction indicators.
Because ES-001 is a header report, every money field it carries is an entry summary total. Estimated duty on an ES-001 row is the duty for the whole summary, not the duty attributable to any one line or any one tariff number. If the question is which HTS number or which line drove a duty amount, that question belongs to ACE Reports ES-002 Entry Summary Line Details, the line level entry summary report with one row per line item, or to ES-003 at the tariff level. Our ES-003 retrieval guide walks through the tariff level pull.
Why the status fields matter
The liquidation status, liquidation date and liquidation type fields on ES-001 are the practical reason many compliance teams run the report at all. They tell you whether an entry summary is still open, whether it has liquidated, and when. That timing drives whether a correction path is still available and which one. The live entry and post summary correction indicators tell you how the summary was handled and whether a filer has already amended it.
Who runs ES-001 and when in the entry lifecycle?
ES-001 is run by a user with ACE Reports access under an account that is entitled to the data, typically an importer viewing its own importer of record number or a broker viewing its filer activity. Account access is administered by the Trade Account Owner, who may designate an ACE Trade Account Owner proxy, the proxy TAO role in the ACE Secure Data Portal that manages users and permissions on the owner's behalf. If a compliance analyst cannot see ES-001 or cannot see the expected importer numbers, the fix is usually a permissions change made by the Trade Account Owner or proxy TAO, not a report problem. If the organization has no portal account yet, start with the ACE portal application process.
In practical workflow terms, ES-001 is used at three moments: monthly or quarterly reconciliation of broker filings against purchase and payment records; a pre liquidation review to catch entries that need correction before the window closes; and a post liquidation sweep to build refund and protest worklists. Before ACE Reports existed, importers who wanted this visibility typically requested Importer Trade Activity (ITRAC) data, the importer specific entry data extract requested from CBP under the Freedom of Information Act for the importer's own transactions, which was historically how importers audited their brokers' filings. ES-001 makes the routine version of that review self service.
How is ES-001 run and filtered in ACE Reports?
ES-001 is executed inside ACE Reports by selecting the report, setting a filter such as a date range or an importer number, and running or scheduling the output. Navigation paths and run options change as CBP updates the platform, so confirm the current steps in ACE Reports itself rather than in older desk procedures. CBP is also rolling out ACE Reports Modernized, the rebuilt ACE Reports platform intended to replace the legacy reporting tool with the same trade data on a new interface. ACE Reports Modernized is not a new data source and not a new report family, so ES-001 content should carry over even though the screens differ.
Field meanings are documented in the ACE Reports data dictionary, CBP's published reference defining each data object available in ACE Reports, its source record and its meaning. When two people disagree about what an ES-001 column contains, the data dictionary, not institutional memory, settles it. The data dictionary is distinct from the ACE CATAIR, which describes transmission formats for filers rather than report output.
Common ES-001 errors and what they cost
Most ES-001 problems are scoping problems rather than data problems. Three recur.
Filtering on entry date when summary date was meant
ES-001 carries both the entry date and the summary date. Filtering on the wrong one shifts the population, drops summaries filed after the period closed, and makes period totals fail to tie to accounting. Decide which date your question actually turns on before running ES-001.
Mixing ACS era and ACE era summaries
Pulls that reach far back can combine legacy ACS era summaries with ACE era summaries. Populations built that way are not comparable and will produce reconciliation differences that are artifacts of the systems, not of the filings. Keep historical analyses bounded, and note the boundary in the workpaper.
Reading header duty as line duty
Estimated duty on ES-001 is the summary total. Teams that allocate that number to a product or an HTS number without going to ES-002 or ES-003 will misstate exposure. Verify classification level questions against the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and line level reports.
How ES-001 interacts with other ACE tools and reports
ES-001 is the starting inventory for several downstream ACE processes. The liquidation fields in ES-001 identify candidates for the ACE Protest module, the ACE Secure Data Portal function through which importers, brokers and attorneys file, amend and track protests, the electronic CBP Form 19, under 19 U.S.C. 1514 and 19 CFR part 174, and against which CBP records its decisions. The post summary correction indicator on ES-001 shows which summaries a filer has already amended.
For entries flagged under ACE Reconciliation (entry type 09), the ACE program under which an importer flags an entry summary for later reconciliation of undeterminable value, classification, 9802 or free trade agreement issues and then files a reconciliation entry that closes them, ES-001 provides the population of underlying summaries to track. Where antidumping or countervailing duties are involved, the case data keyed on entry lines comes from ACE AD/CVD case management, the ACE function with its public ADCVD Search that publishes Commerce case numbers, company suffixes, cash deposit rates, effective dates and liquidation instructions; ES-001 will not show case level detail, so pair it with line level reports.
ES-001 also has neighbors it is frequently confused with. The Document Image System (DIS), CBP's ACE channel for filers to transmit electronic images and structured documents such as invoices, certificates, permits and mill test certificates tied to an entry, in bond or partner government agency line, holds documents, not report rows. ACE truck eManifest, the electronic truck manifest highway carriers must transmit to CBP before arrival at a land border port, carries conveyance, crew, equipment and shipment data that releases key off; it is carrier data, not the importer's entry summary. Neither appears in ES-001.
Frequently asked questions
Is ES-001 the same as the old AM-068 report?
ES-001 is the replacement for the legacy AM-068 and ESM-7068 reports. Procedures and audit checklists that still reference those report names should be updated to name ES-001 instead.
Can ES-001 show me duty by HTS number?
No. ES-001 is header level, so its estimated duty and total entered value are summary totals. Use ES-002 for line level detail and ES-003 for tariff level detail.
Does ES-001 change under ACE Reports Modernized?
ACE Reports Modernized presents the same trade data on a new interface, so ES-001 is expected to remain the entry summary header report. Confirm the current report catalog and field list in ACE Reports before rewriting a procedure.
Who can see ES-001 for my importer number?
Access depends on ACE account entitlements managed by the Trade Account Owner or a designated proxy TAO. If an expected importer number does not appear in ES-001 output, the issue is normally account permissions; confirm with the account owner or CBP.
What importers and brokers should do
- Standardize one ES-001 run definition per recurring review, writing down which date field is used and why, so period results are reproducible.
- Pair every ES-001 pull that touches duty with an ES-002 or ES-003 pull before drawing conclusions about products, classifications or refund amounts.
- Use the ES-001 liquidation fields to build a calendar driven worklist for reconciliation, correction and protest decisions rather than reacting to liquidation notices.
- Have the Trade Account Owner or proxy TAO review who holds ACE Reports access at least annually, and verify field meanings against the ACE Reports data dictionary.
